Scots who are sick of gloomy weather could make decent cash for moving to a sun-soaked Spanish town - and could even double their earnings if they give birth there.
Ponga, a municipality located north of the country, is hoping to entice new residents to boost its extremely low population of 598. Brits who move to the mountain region will be paid a whopping £2,600 and an extra £2,600 for every new baby registered.
Many Spanish towns' inhabitants have decreased over the years, as younger residents move to busier, larger areas to find work.
Also a classified national park, Ponga gets sunshine for 2,000 hours every year – higher than the UK’s 1,387 - so good weather plus good cash will likely attract many UK sun worshipers.
Gijón is 35 miles away - about an hour and a half drive - making it the nearest city to the village, reports the Daily Star. The coastal area is home to a beautiful beach, palatial houses, a museum, art centre and concert hall.

The area also has a natural park filled with forest and a protection area for wild birds meaning it’s great for nature lovers and hikers. The hills of Asturias will be within view of your home and you’re close to the Costa Verde for seaside days and sea swimming.
Ponga is a picturesque haven for those who want to get away from the rat race, but it can be reached by ferry from the UK if you pass through Santander or Bilbao.
Many Scottish flights require more than one stop and are costly, but routes from London to Asturias sell for as little as £35 direct - so if you want to visit family it won’t be a huge expense.

It also takes just one hour and 55 minutes on the flight so you’re never too far away for visits from loved ones. Meanwhile, if you want to see everything you can of Spain while living in Ponga you can head from Oviedo Asturias to Barcelona for just £34 in one hour and 25 minutes.
Alternatively, you can catch the train to Madrid for £54. Such schemes tend to be put forward as a way to repopulate towns that have seen a drop in residents generally as younger generations move into big cities.
New Zealand is also looking for Brits to move with over 100 being offered in the area.
