Sunniest and warmest spots in Ireland pinpointed as scorching weather continues

Ireland has been basking in glorious sunshine this week with temperatures soaring across the country.

Weather experts have said that mercury will hit as high as 23C this weekend.

A Met Eireann has pinpointed both the hottest and sunniest areas of the country this week.

The weather service said that 12.8 hours of sunshine were recorded at the Erris weather station in Co. Mayo.

Meanwhile, Mount Dillon in Co Roscommon was the hottest spot in the country with a temperature of 25.1 degrees recorded.

Not far behind were two Mayo locations with Furnace in Newport (24.9 degrees) and Claremorris (24.7) recording the next highest temperatures.

And it looks as though that good weather is set to continue this weekend with plenty of hot weather and sunshine expected.

A forecaster said: "Friday will be dry and mostly sunny once any early morning mist and fog clears, though an isolated light shower may develop in western areas in the afternoon.

"Highest temperatures generally of 20 to 24C but a light easterly breeze will keep temperatures between 17 and 19C in the east and southeast."

Friday night will be dry with clear spells and patches of mist and fog and lowest temperatures of 8 to 14C.

Saturday will be "another dry day with long spells of sunshine, hazy at times in the north and east", with highest temperatures of 20 to 23C generally, but a few degrees cooler along eastern and northern coasts.

It will stay dry on Saturday night and most areas will have clear spells but it will become cloudier in northern areas. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 14C.

Sunday will be a cloudier day but will stay dry, with maximum temperatures ranging between 17C in the north to 23C in the south, where the best of the sunshine will be.

Sunday night will be dry with clear spells but again some patchy mist and fog will form and lowest temperatures of 10 to 14C.
