Veterans of the long-running and frequently heated sunloungers war will be relieved to know time has finally been called on the hoggers.
Holidaymakers who step away from a sunbed for too long can now be booted off it thanks to a new digital attendant.
And it means selfish tourists will also no longer be able to bag the best spots around the pool by rising at the crack of dawn to drape towels over them.
The Sunlounger Timer device works like a parking disc, registering when the bed is in use.
When the occupant gets up it reserves the lounger for a period of time set by the hotel, starting a countdown.
If they do not return within that time, the lounger is back up for grabs.
Lars Olsen, who founded the Danish firm, hopes the invention “will change the poolside experience for ever”.
He said: “The towel war has been an issue for thousands of hotels and their guests for many years.
“The timer is like an advanced ‘digital parking disc’ which registers movements when the guest leaves.
The guest must be back on before the countdown stops, otherwise a new guest can use it.”
Last year, Thomas Cook introduced a booking service that lets guests reserve hotel sunloungers from home – for their whole stay. It costs from £22 a lounger but only 20% can be prebooked.
