MUMBAI: In yet another feather in his highly decorated cap, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has been named as the Goodwill Ambassador of Zanzibar, an autonomous region of Tanzania in East Africa.
The opening great, who is currently in Zanzibar, earlier laid the foundation stone of the 'Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Stadium' at Zanzibar. The 72-year-old played against East Africa in the 1975 World Cup.
"It's a huge honour indeed. It's because of all those who have supported me from my childhood especially during the tough phases," an elated Gavaskar told TOI from Zanzibar.
