Sunderland youngster Jordan Hunter joins South Shields on loan

Sunderland youngster Jordan Hunter has joined South Shields on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old could be in line to make his senior debut when the Mariners host Ashton United in the BetVictor NPL Premier Division One tonight.

It won’t be Hunter’s first appearance at Mariners Park this season after he came on as a second-half substitute as a Black Cats side featuring the likes of Will Grigg, Chris Maguire and Grant Leadbitter claimed a 2-0 win on South Tyneside in July.

The full-back joins a Mariners squad that are looking to build on Saturday’s opening day win at Ratcliffe and continue their efforts to secure a fourth promotion in five seasons.

South Shields joint-manager Lee Picton spoke to the club’s website after completing the deal.

He said: “We are delighted to bring Jordan into the squad for an initial one-month loan.

“He is a player we have watched on a number of occasions and we feel he will strengthen our squad heading into a period when we will play a lot of games in a short period of time.

“We know from watching Jordan play that he has the right attributes to fit really well into our squad and we look forward to working with him over at least the next month.”
