Sunderland youngster Jack Diamond joins Spennymoor Town's promotion push on loan

Sunderland youngster Jack Diamond has joined Spennymoor Town on loan for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old forward made his first-team debut at home to Carlisle United as a substitute in this term's Football League Trophy , and followed it up with a first start at Morecambe, and another cameo from the bench at home to Notts County.

He played in last season's competition for the under-21s.

Diamond is yet to play first-team football in any other competition, so he should get valuable experience at the Brewery Field, where Spennymoor are pushing for promotion to the Conference.

Why Sunderland captain George Honeyman is delighted to be facing Portsmouth at Wembley

Jason Ainsley's side are third in Conference North, where the top team wins automatic promotion and the next six going into play-offs to decide who takes the second promotion spot. This is only their second season in the division.

“Jack is someone we have been keeping an eye on for a number of weeks,” Ainsley explained.

“His form for Sunderland ’s under-23s has been excellent, and with eight games to go, we needed to freshen things up.

“I would like to thank Kevin Ball and Sunderland for their support and co-operation in making this happen.”

Hartlepool United midfielder Lewis Hawkins has also joined for a second loan spell.
