Sunderland woman comes up with innovative way for kids to take part in giant Easter egg hunt

Egg hunts are one of the most popular traditions for children over Easter weekend.

But as the coronavirus outbreak crisis and strict social distancing rules, families are having to think of creative ways to entertain youngsters.

Fiona Simpson, 45, of Seaburn, has come up with 'The Big Neighbourhood Egg Hunt’ that means kids can get creative and also hunt for eggs during their daily walk - without breaking the rules.

She said: “I run a business called ARTventurers and in the middle of March decided not to run anymore classes.

“Since then we have put art classes online, lots of activities and ways to keep children entertained.

“I have been going out with the dog on my daily walk and saw all the amazing rainbows children have put up in the windows.

“That’s when I thought it would be great if there was an egg hunt.

“Children can draw their own designs and put them in their windows for people to look at.

“We have a template, or they can make their own, as we are all about children being creative.”

Thousands people have joined The Big Neighbourhood Easter Egg Hunt Facebook group.

There is a hunt sheet on the Facebook page for children to take out and mark down how many eggs they have found.

Fiona, who started her business in 2011 as a way for children to be creative, said: “We have had people in touch from all over the country, from the Highlands to the south of England.”
