Sunderland will face MK Dons in Papa John's Trophy quarter-final

Sunderland will take on MK Dons in the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy next month.

Tonight's last-eight draw, made by ex-Swindon and Luton Town striker Sam Parkin on the EFL highlights show on Quest, saw the Black Cats paired with the Dons, with the game due to take place at Stadium MK on either Tuesday, February 2 or Wednesday, February 3.

It means Sunderland will face Russell Martin's side twice in a matter of days, as the Wearsiders are also due to play a League One fixture at Stadium MK on Saturday, February 6.

This will be the first meeting between Sunderland and MK Dons in this competition.

They have met twice previously in cup competitions, with Sunderland winning on both occasions.

Martin O'Neill's Black Cats beat the Dons 2-0 at Stadium MK in the third round of the Capital One Cup in September 2012.

And the following season, Paolo di Canio was in charge when Sunderland beat the Dons 4-2 on Wearside in a second round tie in August 2013, which was the start of the run that ended with the Black Cats reaching the final at Wembley.

More recently, Sunderland completed a League double over MK Dons last season, but this season they lost at home against the Dons in November.
