Sunderland vs Wycombe Wanderers team news as Lee Johnson makes one change from last league game

After making seven changes in midweek for the Carabao Cup win at Blackpool, Lee Johnson reverted to virtually the same side that began last weekend's home win against AFC Wimbledon in the league.

The only change from that game Sunderland boss Johnson made against Wycombe Wanderers was the return of Dennis Cirkin at left-back, with midfielder Alex Pritchard making way.

That meant Dan Neil, who had played left-back against the Dons, moved back into midfield alongside Luke O'Nien, who was passed fit to play against his former club despite suffering a recurrence of an ongoing shoulder problem last Saturday.

With Neil opertaing in one of the deep-lying midfield slots, Elliot Embleton moved into the number ten role that had been occupied by Pritchard.

Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson kept his place in the starting XI after being promoted from the bench just before kick-off against the Dons when Lee Burge picked up an injury in the warm-up.

Burge was included on the bench.

Also on the bench was Aiden O'Brien, who scored a hat-trick in the 3-2 win at Blackpool.

New signings Niall Huggins and Frederik Alves made their debuts in the game at Blackpool, and they were on the bench this afternoon.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth made three changes to his side's starting XI in their last league outing, which saw them beat Lincoln City last weekend.

Ryan Tafazolli, Sullay Kaikai, and Anis Mehmeti, came into the side in place of Anthony Stewart, Garath McCleary, and Nick Freeman.

Former Sunderland midfielder Josh Scowen, who was released over the summer, lined up against his former club.
