Sunderland 1-0 Tranmere player ratings as O'Nien stars for Trophy winners

Sunderland ended their Wembley hoodoo, beating Tranmere 1-0 to win the EFL Trophy.

Lynden Gooch's second-half goal was the difference, with Luke O'Nien superb at the back,.

Chris Maguire had Sunderland's first chance but pulled his shot wide, before Charlie Wyke just couldn't steer the ball home after excellent work from Aiden McGeady.

At the other end, Lee Burge just about kept a looping ball out, while Lloyd headed straight at the Sunderland keeper.

Tom Flanagan was forced off late in the half, Conor McLaughlin replacing him.

The game turned on a sublime second-half move, when Aiden McGeady fed Lynden Gooch with a superb pass and the US international ran through to slot home.

Here's how James Hunter rated the Sunderland players at Wembley.
