Sunderland vs Portsmouth team selector: Jack Ross' dilemma for Pompey visit

Sunderland manager Jack Ross has given himself something of a selection headache this weekend - but it's largely a positive problem.

The Black Cats boss made six changes to his side for the League Cup win over Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night, which saw them run out 3-1 winners.

It was an improved performance from the Wearsiders, following two 1-1 draws in their opening League One matches against Oxford and Ipswich Town.

And it presented a few issues when it comes to picking the side for Saturday's visit of Portsmouth.

Dylan McGeouch and Denver Hume are back in training after sitting out the midweek clash, but Duncan Watmore, Ethan Robson and Glenn Loovens are still out.

However Grant Leadbitter and Max Power both did well in central midfield at the Wham Stadium, while Alim Ozturk was solid on his first start of the campaign in the middle of defence.

Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke both came off the bench to score at Accrington, and while McGeady will probably start, Ross has to decide whether to give Will Grigg another chance, go with Wyke, or change formation, which would allow Chris Maguire to operate on the right-hand side.
