Sunderland vs Portsmouth team news as Phil Parkinson makes one change

Phil Parkinson made one change to the side that started the midweek win against Crewe Alexandra.

Jordan Willis returned to the side after recovering from the bruised foot he sustained at Swindon Town last weekend, and which kept him out against the Railwaymen.

He took his usual place on the right side of the back three, with Conor McLaughlin dropping to the bench at the expense of Jack Diamond.

That meant Lynden Gooch continued in the right wingback role he took against Crewe.

Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett stuck with the same starting XI that won 2-0 at Gillingham on Tuesday night.

Former Coventry City striker Jordy Hiwula was included on the bench after signing a short-team deal with the South Coast club this week.

Today's line-ups

Sunderland; Burge, Willis, Wright, O’Nien, Gooch, Scowen, Leadbitter, Power, Hume, Maguire, Wyke

Subs: Matthews, McLaughlin, Flanagan, Dobson, Graham, O’Brien, Grigg

Portsmouth: MacGillivray, Johnson, Whatmough, Rackett, Brown, Williams, Naylor, Cannon, Jacobs, Harness, Marquis.

Subs: Bass, Nicolaisen, Pring, Close, Morris, Curtis, Hiwula.
