Sunderland vs Blackpool team news - Grant Leadbitter starts for Black Cats

Lee Johnson made one change to the side that started the 3-3 draw against Accrington Stanley at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Grant Leadbitter came into the starting XI in place of Carl Winchester, who dropped to the bench.

With Dion Sanderson ruled out for the remainder of the Black Cats' season, and Tom Flanagan and Conor McLaughlin not yet ready to return, Luke O'Nien again partnered Bailey Wright in central defence, with no centre-back cover on the bench.

Blackpool boss Neil Critchley made three changes to the side that lost at home to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Former Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson came into the side in place of current Black Cat Elliot Embleton, who is on loan with the Seasiders and cannot play against his parent club.

The other changes saw Ollie Turton and James Husband replace Jordan Gabriel and Ellis Simms.
