Sunderland vs AFC Wimbledon team news as Black Cats rocked by Covid-19 outbreak

Sunderland announced prior to kick-off that they would be without eight first-team squad members, after one senior player returned a positive Covid-19 test leading to a number of others going into self-isolation.

Neither the player who had tested positive nor the seven players in self-isolation were identified, although there were a number of obvious absentees.

Tom Flanagan, Max Power, Aiden McGeady, Charlie Wyke and Josh Scowen were all missing, although Scowen was a doubt after suffering a shin injury at the weekend.

They were replaced by Dion Sanderson, George Dobson, Elliot Embleton, Aiden O’Brien, and Will Grigg.

Chris Maguire, Danny Graham and Remi Matthews, who were on the bench at Lincoln, were also missing from the squad.

That meant Anthony Patterson, Ollie Younger, Brandon Taylor and Mitch Curry – all of whom played for the U23s against Norwich City yesterday – were included on the bench.

And Jordan Willis and Lynden Gooch, who were not considered fully-fit as they return from injuries, were also amongst the subs.

AFC Wimbledon boss Glyn Hodges made one change to the side that began the weekend defeat at Charlton Athletic, with Callum Reilly replacing Anthony Hartigan,
