Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley team news as Ron-Thorben Hoffmann makes his debut

Deadline-day signing Ron-Thorben Hoffmann made his Sunderland debut, starting in goal against Accrington Stanley.

The on-loan Bayern Munich man replaced youngster Anthony Patterson in Sunderland's starting XI, with that the only change made by Lee Johnson to the side that began the league win against Wycombe Wanderers a fortnight ago.

Patterson dropped out of the matchday squad altogether, with Lee Burge included on the bench as backup for Hoffman after recovering from a hip flexor injury.

There was no place in the squad for Sunderland's other deadline day arrival, winger Leon Dajaku.

But midfielder Corry Evans was fit enough to be included amongst the subs after almost a month out of action with a hamstring problem.

Accrington boss John Coleman made two changes to the team that beat Shrewsbury Town last time out.

James Trafford replaced Toby Savin in goal, while Dion Charles came into the starting XI at the expense of Joel Mumbongo.
