Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley team news: Aiden McGeady starts

Lee Johnson made three changes to the side that started the midweek draw at leaders Hull City.

Aiden McGeady returned to the Black Cats line-up after missing out on Tuesday due to a badly bruised foot, and he replaced Jordan Jones.

Aiden O'Brien came in for Grant Leadbitter, and Denver Hume replaced Callum McFadzean at left-back.

Johnson reverted to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, with Josh Scowen and Carl Winchester playing in front of the back four, and with Lynden Gooch and McGeady either side of O'Brien in the three, with Charlie Wyke leading the line.

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman stuck with the same XI that beat Doncaster Rovers at the Crown Ground on Tuesday.
