Sunderland transfer gossip as goalkeeper hunt heats up, plus latest on Graham deal

Sunderland are reportedly trying to hijack Ipswich's bid to sign Remi Matthews as the Black Cats look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

Jon McLaughlin's exit to Rangers has left Phil Parkinson with only Lee Burge as an experienced first-team shot-stopper, and he's keen to bring in some competition.

And reports in East Anglia suggest Sunderland are keen on former Bolton keeper Matthews, who has been training with Ipswich.

The East Anglian Daily Times report that while Ipswich had hoped to sign the free agent this summer, the Black Cats have now emerged as serious contenders for the 26-year-old.

Parkinson signed Matthews while at Bolton, and is reportedly keen to offer him first-team football at the Stadium of Light in the coming season,

Meanwhile, the Sun claim that Sunderland are working on a loan deal for Wolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.

As we reported in July, the Black Cats remain keen on a deal for the Montenegro international, despite him moving from Aston Villa to Wolves last month.

The 23-year-old could be available on a loan deal, with Sarkic keen for more first-team football.

The Sun have also again linked Sunderland with Danny Graham, the former Black Cats striker now a free agent after leaving Blackburn this summer.

Graham endured a difficult spell on Wearside, managing just one goal in 42 appearances between 2012 and 2016 following a £5m deal from Swansea.

However, he refound his goalscoring form while at Ewood Park, and could be tempted by a move back to his native North East.

Again, Ipswich have also been credited with interest in Graham and, with Luke Garbutt also linked with the Tractor Boys, the two sides could battle it out for three players this summer.
