Sunderland tempted by move for former Aston Villa and Hull City defender Eric Lichaj

Sunderland are deciding whether or not to take a look at former Aston Villa defender Erich Lichaj, according to reports.

Reports over the weekend claim the Black Cats could bring him to the club for a look at him this week.

The 32-year-old defender is a free agent after leaving Fatih Karagümrük S.K in Turkey.

Lichaj has plenty of experience of playing football in England, having moved to Aston Villa from Chicago Fire in 2009.

The United-States international would make a number of appearances for Villa in the Premier League before joining Notts Forest in 2013.

He clocked up 188 appearances for Forest, scoring six times during his tenure at the City Ground.

Lichaj joined Hull on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee but was released by the Tigers following on from their relegation to the Championship in 2020.

The Black Cats are reportedly close to making two signings this week with more to follow.
