Sunderland takeover hits 'snag' with EFL waiting for Kyril Louis-Dreyfus partner funding

The Black Cats takeover has hit a snag with the EFL requesting Kyril Louis-Dreyfus' partners to commit to their part of funding the club for two years, according to reports.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon says that once the partners provide this information then the takeover should be as good as finished.

Sunderland announced that a deal had been agreed with the 23-year-old son of former Marseille owner and billionaire, Robert Louis-Dreyfus.

The club had expected the deal to be completed by mid-January pending EFL approval and would not release any further comment until that stage.

There has still been no update with fans worried about the takeover. However, the deal is still expected to go ahead with head coach Lee Johnson saying he was feeling positive about the future.

According to NIxon, the EFL want Juan Sartori and current owner Stewart Donald to commit to their part of funding the club for the next two years before approving the sale.

Donald is set to take a back-seat role with smaller shares if the deal is approved, with Louis-Dreyfus taking up the role as chairman at the Stadium of Light.
