Sunderland store targeted in another ram raid bid in the city

Police are investigating after an overnight attempted ram raid at a Sunderland convenience store.

Officers were called to the Premier store on Ethel Terrace, Castletown, Sunderland, early in the morning on Friday (March 27) after reports that a vehicle had been used to damage the shutters overnight.

No one entered the property and nothing was taken.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7.30am on Friday (March 27) we received a report of an attempted burglary at the Premier store on Ethel Terrace, Sunderland.

“It was reported that overnight a vehicle had been used to damage the shutters of the store. However, access was not gained and nothing was taken.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 126 270320.”

It follows two previous incidents as police were called to the Spar store on Hylton Road, Sunderland at 11.40pm on Friday after a car had been driven into the shutters of the store, before making off empty-handed from the scene.

Three hours later, shortly before 2.45am on Saturday, officers received a report that a car had been driven into the shutters at Sainsbury’s on Station Road, Fulwell, causing significant damage.
