Sunderland have signed Steven Pienaar on a one-year contract. The 34-year-old was a free agent having been released by Everton at the end of last season and has chosen to link up with David Moyes, the man who brought him to Goodison Park twice.
Pienaar rarely featured for Roberto Martínez at Everton last season, making only four Premier League appearances. The South African has also played for Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax, and has 61 caps.
The move comes on the same day that the club confirmed that the defender Younès Kaboul is close to moving to Watford.
