Sunderland sign former Burnley academy striker Will Harris

Sunderland have signed former Burnley academy striker Will Harris for their Under-23 squad.

The 19-year-old left Turf Moor in August and has signed a one-year deal with the Black Cats, joining up with Elliott Dickman's Under-23 group.

It's a return to his roots for Harris, with the youngster born in South Shields. He joins Bobby Beaumont, Sam Wilding, Vinnie Steels and Kenton Richardson as new recruits for the club's second string.

“Being a local lad, it’s a dream come true to sign a contract with Sunderland," Harris told the club's official website.

"I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get started,"

And Dickman was delighted to have him on board.

“We’re really pleased to get this deal done," he added. "We had Will on trial before lockdown and we liked what we saw.

"He has attributes that should really benefit us this season and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Harris spent three years at Burnley, and had spells on loan at Colne FC and Warrington Town.
