The teenager caught the eye for Sunderland's Under-18s last season and several top-flight clubs were chasing the signature of the 6ft3 striker.

The Black Cats included the youngster in their squad that travelled to Wembley for the EFL Trophy final win over Tranmere Rovers, a move that was "Intended to incentivise him to committing his future to the club."

However, the latest reports suggest that Okoronkwo will sign on the dotted line at Goodison Park, where he will enter their academy set-up once the transfer is ratified by the Premier League.

Okoronkwo is set to join the list of promising Sunderland youngsters who have quite the club in lure of the Premier League.

It's disappointing news given the new owner - Kyril Louis-Dreyfus' - message to fans promising to try and keep their best young talent.

Joe Hugill and Logan Pye joined Manchester United last summer, while former first-team fringe player - Bali Mumba - has penned a new deal at Norwich City.
