Sunderland's swoop for Bayern Munich duo could cause problems in hunt for right-back

Sunderland's swoop for Bayern Munich duo could impact their pursuit of Arsenal right-back Ryan Alebiosu.

The Black Cats have been repeatedly linked with the Gunners youngster this summer, with his agent Roberto De Fanti - the former Sunderland director of football - claiming the loan deal was close.

Lee Johnson's side currently have three loanees at the club; Callum Doyle, Frederik Alves and Nathan Broadhead and are closing in on Bayern Munich duo Ron-Thorben Hoffmann and Leon Dajaku.

Their arrival would take the numbers of loans in Johnson's squad to five - which is the maximum amount of loans permitted in the matchday squad in League One.

So, if the Wearsiders are to pursue a loan move for Ryan Alebiosu, one of the five previously mentioned would have to sit out of the matchday squad.

It's unclear whether Sunderland are still pursuing a move for the full-back, having recently pulled out of a move for Jordan Gabriel - who has joined Blackpool.

The Black Cats signed versatile youngster Niall Huggins from Leeds United who is capable at playing either side of the defence, and Carl Winchester has also been utilised in that position so far this season.

'Square pegs in round holes' was one of the issues cited behind Sunderland's poor end of season form by Johnson, and their pursuit of an out and out right-back has been well documented this summer.

The Wearsiders have had a number of bids knocked back for Josh Key and it remains to be seen whether they'll pursue this further ahead of the deadline closing.
