Sunderland's final game of the Championship season against Preston North End has been put back 48 hours to avoid a clash with the Coronation of King Charles III. The entire programme of EFL Championship fixtures that was due to take place on Saturday, May 6, has been moved to Monday, May 8..
The Black Cats were set to visit Deepdale to round off their league campaign on the Saturday but the EFL has today confirmed that the season will now end on the Monday. All games on the final day of the season must be played simultaneously, and will kick-off at 3pm on Monday, May 8.
The new date had already been nominated as a Bank Holiday as a result of the coronation. The EFL has also confirmed the date and time of the final rounds of fixtures in both League One and League Two.

The League One campaign will end on Sunday, May 7, with all games kicking off at 12noon. And the final round of fixtures in League Two will take place on Monday, May 8, with all games kicking off at 12.30pm.
As things stand, the Premier League still has fixtures scheduled for Saturday, May 6, although there remains a chance that they could be moved.
