Sunderland's game against Hull City rescheduled with the game picked for live Sky coverage

Sunderland's home game against Hull City has been rescheduled for this weekend - and will be screened live on Sky.

The Black Cats will take on the Tigers at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, January 9, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

This is the fixture that was originally due to be played on Boxing Day, but was postponed at Sunderland's request following the Covid outbreak at the Academy of Light.

With both Sunderland and Hull City already out of the FA Cup, they had no fixture on third round weekend.

That led Sunderland to bring forward their home League One fixture against Fleetwood Town, while Hull City scheduled a league game against Wigan Athletic.

But positive Covid tests in both the Fleetwood and Wigan camps saw those fixtures postponed.

And that left Sunderland and Hull with an opportunity to play each other, easing their fixture backlogs.

Sunderland still have three more games outstanding, with their Covid outbreak before Christmas leading to their trips to Shrewsbury and Accrington Stanley, and the home game against Blackpool, being postponed.
