Sunderland's Elliot Embleton wins Grimsby's Goal of the Season award

Elliot Embleton has won Grimsby's Goal of the Season award for his sensation curling effort against MK Dons in the FA Cup.

The Sunderland youngster impressed at Blundell Park during a season-long loan spell which ended prematurely after he suffered a hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old made 30 appearances, netting four goals during the campaign.

And the England youth international dominated the club's Goal of the Season awards, with three of those four strikes receiving nominations for the accolade. In total six goals were nominated, with Embleton's efforts making up 50% of the nominations.

In the end it was his long-range, curling effort against MK Dons which won the award - a strike which helped Grimsby into the second round of the FA Cup via a 3-1 win.

Also nominated were goals which you can see in the video below v Morecambe (H), and a fantastic solo effort against Tranmere Rovers at Blundell Park.

With Embleton back on Wearside receiving treatment on his hamstring injury, former Sunderland defender Danny Collins, now at Grimsby himself, picked up the award on the young midfielder's behalf.

Sunderland are hoping to tie Embleton down to a new deal at Sunderland, with his current contract up at the end of the season. The club are keen to keep him, but the 20-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on the offered deal.

Ross has spoken highly of him in the past and after his impressive loan spell away, is likely to be given an opportunity by the Scot next season if he opts to stay.
