Sunderland's Chris Maguire nominated for Player of the Month award - and you can help him win

Chris Maguire has been nominated for the PFA Fans' League One Player of the Month for August.

The Sunderland forward was in fine form in the first month of the season after recovering from an injury during pre-season.

As well as scoring an all important winner against Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light, he then followed that up with all three goals in the 3-1 victory against AFC Wimbledon - becoming the first Black Cats player to net a hat-trick since Jermain Defoe in 2016.

However, Maguire then picked up a knock and his absence was notable as Sunderland lost for the first time this season away to Peteborough.

The 30-year-old Scot faces competition from five other League One players. Also up for the award sponsored by Bristol Street Motors are Ivan Toney (Peterborough), Alex Jakubiak (Gillingham), Marko Marosi (Coventry), James Norwood (Ipswich) and Michael Rose (Coventry).

Sunderland fans can help Maguire win the award, with voting open to supporters until 8am on Thursday, September 5. You can vote for Maguire on the PFA website here.

Sunderland have no game this weekend due to international call-ups and they'll hope the added break will give Maguire time to fully recover and be back fit for the trip to Accrington Stanley a week on Saturday.
