Sunderland's Carabao Cup date with Sheffield United confirmed

Sunderland have announced the date for their Carabao Cup tie at Sheffield United later this month.

The Black Cats will head to Bramall Lane for the third round tie on Wednesday, September 25, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

Ticket details for the fixture have yet to be announced.

Jack Ross' side progressed to the third round after winning 3-1 at League One Accrington Stanley in the first round, and then winning 3-1 against Premier League Burnley in the second round at Turf Moor last week.

The Blades entered the cup competition at the second round stage and Chris Wilder's team beat Championship side Blackburn 2-1 at Bramall Lane to set up the tie against Sunderland.

Sunderland's last meeting with Sheffield United in this competition came at the fourth round stage in December 2002, when Neil Warnock's Championship outfit beat Howard Wilkinson's top flight Black Cats 2-0 in South Yorkshire.

Shaun Murphy and Wayne Allison scored the goals which sent the Blades through to the quarter-finals for the first time since 1972.
