Sunderland defender Bailey Wright has declared the upmost pride when representing his native country, following his goal in Australia's 2-1 win over Jordan just days ago. The 29-year-old restored parity in the game before Awer Mabil netted the winner with just twenty minutes remaining.
Wright's Australia will face United Arab Emirates in a crucial World Cup knockout game in just four days time, with the 29-year-old fresh off the back of promotion to the Championship with Sunderland this season.
Given his length spell away from the side in recent years, the former Preston man was happy he could chip in as he met Craig Goodwin’s whipped free-kick at the back post to score his first international goal in eight years.

Speaking following the victory, Wright hailed the importance of a victory in any way, but insisted he could of added further to his goal tally on the evening however. "It’s great to score but I would have been more pleased with winning and keeping a clean sheet," began the Black Cats man.
"As a defender, that’s what you sort of pride yourself on but chipping in with goals is always nice and I could have almost had two. When you know you’ve got good delivery, it’s easy to make your runs and attack the ball."
Adding the immense joy that comes with representing his country, Wright explained further on just how much it means to him to pull on the Socceroos jersey once more. “To play for Australia and wear this shirt, I never take it for granted,” Wright explained.
"For me, it was a three year spell where I’ve not really had the opportunity to represent my country and it means a lot. I’ve always been itching and working hard to try and get another opportunity. It was nice to be back out there and get some more minutes.”
