Sunderland's Aiden McGeady shortlisted for League One Player of the Year award

Sunderland's Aiden McGeady has been shortlisted for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Year award.

The Republic of Ireland international is one of three players put forward for the award, alongside Luton Town's James Collins and Doncaster Rovers' John Marquis.

Collins' 20 goals make him the division's current leading scorer as the tabletopping Hatters bid for back-to-back promotions, while Marquis has scored 18 goals with Rovers competing for a play-off place.

McGeady has scored 10 league goals and has also contributed five assists for the Black Cats .

The 32-year-old is Sunderland's sole representative in the League One team of the season, which also included four Barnsley players, three from Luton, two from Doncaster, and one from Portsmouth. Barnsley's Daniel Stendel was named as manager of the League One team of the season.

All 72 EFL managers have been invited to vote for their players of the year and the winners of the EFL Awards will be announced on Sunday, April 7, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

The Championship Player of the Year shortlist features Sheffield United's Billy Sharp, Norwich City's Teemu Pukki, and Birmingham City's Che Adams.

And the League Two Player of the Year shortlist includes Tranmere Rovers' James Norwood, and the Bury duo of Danny Mayor and Jay O'Shea.

The EA Sports Young Player of the Season shortlist consists of Derby County's Harry Wilson, Luton Town's James Justin, and Norwich City's Max Aarons.
