Sunderland's 128-year-old record still stands after Premier League winners Liverpool drop points

Sunderland's 128-year-old record as the only top-flight side to win every home game in a season still stands after Premier League champions Liverpool drew against Burnley this afternoon.

The Reds have already wrapped up the title and were bidding to match Sunderland's achievement, set in 1891-92, by winning every one of their home games.

But Jurgen Klopp's side dropped points when they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Clarets at Anfield in their penultimate home game, with Andrew Robertson's opener cancelled out by Burnley's Jay Rodriguez.

Liverpool have won more home games this season than Sunderland did in 1891-92, however.

They have won 17 league games on home soil already and could make it 18 if they beat Chelsea on July 22.

By comparison, when Sunderland's 'Team of All Talents' set their record, there were one of only 14 teams in the division meaning they ended the campaign with 13 wins at the club's then Newcastle Road home, where they played from 1886 until the move to Roker Park in 1898.

Sunderland's history-making season saw the club win the first of its six league titles.

Outside the top division Brentford were the last English side to win every home league game, with their achievement coming in Division Three (North) in 1929-30.
