Sunderland owner Stewart Donald quashes rumours of takeover talks with 'mystery Malaysian bidder'

Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has quashed rumours that he is talking to a 'mystery Malaysian bidder' regarding the sale of the Black Cats.

In a report in the Sun on Sunday, it was claimed that Sunderland had held talks with the mystery Far East buyer, who had already sent representatives to Wearside for talks on two occasions.

It is also claimed that Donald has two valuations for the club. Sunderland are currently third in the League One table but have automatic promotion in their own hands.

Sunderland are level on points with second placed Barnsley but have two games in hand.

As a result, the report claimed Donald has one valuation of the club should they be in the Championship next season and another valuation if they remain in League One.

However, when the report was brought to his attention, Donald - who completed his takeover of Sunderland in May last year - he took to social media to quash the reports.

"Absolute total and utter b******t," Donald replied when a fan tweeted him the story.

"(I) Haven’t spoken to any Malaysian let alone seen his reps on Wearside. Totally and utterly made up rubbish!!

"If they print enough rumours they will get one right eventually."
