Sunderland must guard themselves against tactical fatigue, says Lee Johnson

Lee Johnson says the he and his backroom staff must guard against tactical fatigue as they try to get their message across to Sunderland players.

The Black Cats head coach says he has faith that the Wearsiders can put together a run of results and still achieve promotion.

But, Johnson is frustrated that he hasn't been able to have a pre-season with his side yet and is learning on the job.

"We really do believe in ourselves," said Johnson. "We believe we can put a run together. I suppose one of my frustrations is that you don't get pre-season with the boys and we're learning on the job.

"Everyone learns in different ways. Some learn by doing it, some learn by watching it, while others learn through failure.

"We've had to do a lot of video analysis with the players and bombard the players with tactical detail.

"Sometimes you can get tactical fatigue on the back of that so it's important that we guard against that.

"So far so good from the players.

"Those draws in the league - hopefully - we can turn them to wins on the back of that minute detail."
