Sunderland Marina fire: Dramatic video shows smoke billow into sky after boat 'bursts into flames'

A video from the scene of a fire at Sunderland Marina where a boat "burst into flames" shows black smoke billowing into the sky.

Fire crews attended the scene shortly before 9am this morning (June 25) and confirmed three boats were alight.

An eyewitness from the scene said on social media that a boat had "burst into flames" which is thought to have spread to adjoining boats.

Footage from the scene in Sunderland shows plumes of black smoke billow into the sky as fire crews hosed down the boats to put out the fire.

Another video appears to show the flames spreading to nearby boats docked nearby.

Shortly after emergency services arrived the boat is believed to have sunk and the fire was extinguished.

A witness said on Twitter : "The fire is out now. The boat which caught alight has sunk. The boats either side have been damaged."

It is not yet known the extent of the damage of the other boats.

A spokesperson from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two crews from Sunderland Central attended, three boats were on fire.

"Crews arrived shortly before 9am and left about 9:20am."
