Sunderland loanee Ethan Robson to play under new Grimsby Town boss Ian Holloway

Sunderland loanee Ethan Robson will now be playing under Ian Holloway after Grimsby Town confirmed the appointment of their new manager.

The former Blackpool, Crystal Palace, and QPR manager put pen to paper on a deal at Blundell Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Robson has impressed in the first-half of the season with the Mariners, and caretaker boss Anthony Limbrick had confirmed the club would seek to extend the deal to the season regardless of whoever was appointed.

Holloway had made no secret of his intention to take the hotseat at Grimsby, confirming his intention while working as a pundit on Quest’s EFL highlights show.

He said: "To tell you the truth, I would love another go at football. It would have to be with someone I feel I could work with - and have a chance to improve a wonderful old club. That's what I feel Grimsby would be for me."

Robson's current deal at the Stadium of Light expires at the end of the season.

Parkinson is yet to make a decision on the 23-year-old's long-term future on Wearside, and the Black Cats boss confirmed before Christmas the midfielder's performances would continue to be monitored over the festive period.

Parkinson said: "We want him to enjoy these Christmas games at Grimsby and make sure his focus is with them first and foremost.

"I can definitely see the quality he would bring were he to return. He's a young lad keen to play at his hometown club.

"I've already said to him that if we bring him back it's with in mind for him obviously to be involved because he's playing first team football at the moment."
