Sunderland linked with January transfer window move for Barnsley winger

Sunderland have been linked with a January move for Barnsley winger Luke Thomas.

The 21-year-old is attracting interest from a number of League One clubs, including Sunderland and Oxford United – GloucesterLive reports.

Thomas joined Barnsley from Derby County in the summer of 2019 and scored the winner on his debut against Fulham.

His second goal for the Tykes came in a 3-1 FA Cup Third round win against Crewe Alexandra in January last year.

Thomas, who hails from the Forest of Dean, began his career at Cheltenham Town and made one senior appearance for the Robins in the FA Trophy before moving to Derby in January 2016.

The winger spent the 2018/19 season on loan at then League One side Coventry City, scoring five times in 44 appearances and he has made a total of more than 100 career appearances.

He has also made two appearances for the England Under-20s against the Netherlands and Switzerland.
