Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips issues Black Cats stark warning ahead of Lincoln City match up

Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips has issued a stark warning to the Black Cats ahead of their League One match up with Lincoln City.

The Imps are one of the in form sides in the division and sit in second place - two points behind leaders Hull City.

The former Black Cats striker says he was disappointed that his former side didn't win against basement side Wigan.

Phillips said he also doesn't see the Wearsiders getting a result at the LNER Stadium this weekend.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips said: “To be honest, I do not see them getting anything out of the game. It will be a really tough.

“I expected the players to respond straight away to Johnson’s appointment against a Wigan side, who were bottom of the league, but there was nothing.

“Yes, they got a result during the week but it was a game you expected them to win.

“Lincoln City are a different proposition and I cannot see Sunderland getting anything. They are low on confidence and Lincoln are in form.

“If they were to get a result it could be the start of a revival. Lee Johnson will hopefully spark something this week but I cannot see them getting a result.”
