Sunderland leading the hunt to sign Wigan's Viv Solomon-Otabor

Sunderland believe they're in pole position to sign Wigan Athletic's out of contract star Viv Solomon-Otabor.

The 25-year-old winger has been offered fresh terms with the Latics who are piling money into their matchday squad after a takeover at the club.

But, Solomon-Otabor is expected to turn down the deal and move elsewhere.

Blackpool, Portsmouth, and Charlton are also reported to be interested in a move for the former CSKA Sofia winger, who made 28 League One appearances at the DW last season.

While the Seasiders can offer the former Birmingham trainee the opportunity to play in the Championship, the Wearsiders are confident that their deal can prove just as attractive.

The winger impressed against the Black Cats towards the tail end of the 2020/21 season as Lee Johnson's side stumbled over the finish line.

If Solomon-Otabor is to accept Sunderland's terms, it's likely he'll be lining up alongside Aiden McGeady who is reportedly close to agreeing a new deal.

The 35-year-old was instrumental in spearheading Sunderland's promotion push last season alongside Charlie Wyke.

However, it seems increasingly likely that the Black Cats will start next season without their 31-goal striker who looks set to move to Scottish giants Celtic.
