Sunderland Ladies face Liverpool in Continental Cup group stage

Sunderland Ladies have been drawn against Liverpool, Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers in this season’s FA Continental League Cup group stage.

Mel Reay’s side will compete in the competition for the first time since reaching the quarter-finals in 2017, following their promotion to the FA Women’s Championship.

The Continental Tyres Cup group stages will run from week commencing Monday, October 11 through to week commencing Monday, December 13.

Teams will play each other once, with the top team from each group qualifying for the quarter finals scheduled for Wednesday 19 and Thursday, January 20.

If Manchester City and/or Arsenal fail to reach the Champion’s League third round they will be placed in the northern and southern group stages and the best runner up or two best runners up will progress to the next stage with the five group winners.

The Final will be played on the weekend of 5-6 March, likely at a Premier League or Football League stadium.
