Sunderland will have to fight off interest from Aberdeen if they are to firm up their interest in Manchester United youngster James Wilson.
The 23-year-old striker is set to be released by the Old Trafford club this summer and is currently weighing up his options.
The Daily Record report that Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has already offered him a deal to head north of the border.
Wilson spent last season on loan at Pittodrie, where he scored four goals in 32 appearances for the Dons, and they are keen to take him on a permanent basis.
But Sunderland and Preston are also reported to be monitoring the situation, while there is also interest from the MLS.
Wilson has made 14 Premier League appearances for Manchester United since making his debut against Hull City in 2014, scoring three goals in his 17 games in total for the Red Devils.
He has also had loan spells at Brighton, Derby Count and Sheffield United, hitting five goals for the Seagulls in their 2014-15 Championship campaign.
While prolific at youth levels, Wilson has not been able to break into the first team at Manchester United, culminating in his release this summer.
Posting on Instagram, Wilson wrote last week: "Massive thank you to everyone at Manchester United.
"From the players, coaches and staff, that I’ve worked alongside for more than 15 years, to the fans who have always been so supportive and believed in me.
"I will be forever in debt to the club for how it has helped me along my journey and the opportunities and achievements it has allowed me to experience. Thank you #OnceARedAlwaysARed."
