Sunderland interested in bringing Bristol City defender to club on loan in January - reports

Sunderland are interested in a loan move for out-of-favour Bristol City captain Bailey Wright, according to reports.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon claims that Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson wants to make a move for the Australian and bring him to the club on loan for the rest of the season.

Wright has made just three Championship appearances this season and has seen his game time limited by an Achilles injury and falling down the pecking order at Ashton Gate.

Tomas Kalas, Nathan Baker, Ashley Williams and Taylor Moore are all ahead of Wright in the fight for a centre back spot, and the club captain could look for a move away in order to get minutes on the pitch.

Nixon reports that Parkinson has offered the centre back a move and is willing to pay his wages in full for the rest of the season.

Lee Johnson may reportedly let Wright leave and will soon give Sunderland an answer regarding their other Robins target - Antoine Semenyo.

The young striker is nearing a loan move away from Bristol City, with Johnson keen for Semenyo to get more minutes on the pitch.

However, Bristol Live understands that Doncaster Rovers are leading the chase for the striker, despite interest from Sunderland and other League Two clubs.

With Bristol City recently recalling Jojo Wollacott from his loan spell at Forest Green Rovers, they now do have a club developed player who could be involved in match day squads if Semenyo does leave on loan.

Phil Parkinson may only land one of his Robins targets if Doncaster are at the front of the queue for Semenyo.

Despite interest from Chelsea at the beginning of 2019, Semenyo has struggled for game time and form at City this season, making only eight appearances in the league so far and scoring no goals.
