Sunderland-inspired company behind Friends Reunion celebrates show's release

One of the owners of the Sunderland-inspired company behind the year's most highly-anticipated TV events has celebrated the "honour" of helping get everyone's favourite Friends back together.

Ben Winston, of production company Fulwell 73, said on Twitter that he was "delighted" that the Friends Reunion episode was now available for UK viewers to watch.

All six main stars - Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and Matt Le Blanc - appeared for an emotional trip down memory lane alongside former co-stars including including Tom Selleck.

The Sunderland Till I Die creators confirmed back in 2020 that they would be producing the long-awaited reunion show, which had to be postponed due to coronavirus.

UK Friends fans have been able to enjoy the unscripted special since Thursday morning, when it was released on Sky's on-demand service before airing on Sky One at 8pm, a day after it was shown in the US.

Last week, the director and executive producer, tweeted: "What a honour to make this show."

Founded in 2005, Fulwell 73 have been involved in various forms of media including film, television, music videos and more.

The name comes from one of the old stands at Sunderland’s old Roker Park Stadium and then 73 for 1973, the year Sunderland famously beat Leeds to win the FA Cup.

The company runs James Corden's Late Late Show, with Corden, who appears in the reunion special, now a fifth director of the company, alongside fellow co-owners Leo Pearlman, Gabe Turner and Ben Turner, all Sunderland fans. Ben Winston doesn't have the same personal connection to SAFC, and is himself an Arsenal supporter.

Retweeting Ben's message, Gabe Turner called the show "unreal".

He wrote: "Absolute [fire emoji] from @benwinston @emmac77 @longers1 and the whole @Fulwell73 team that made this absolutely enormous TV special! Unreal."
