Sunderland have one of the worst away records in England over the last decade

Only three sides in the English Football League have worse records than Sunderland when playing away from home in the last decade.

While Sunderland supporters regularly travel far and wide in big numbers to get behind the Black Cats, research shows they are rarely rewarded for their loyalty.

The research from  BonusCodeBets.co.uk  found that since the start of the 2009-10 season, Sunderland picked up just 194 points from 202 games at an average of just 0.96 points per game.

Of the 91 current Football League sides, only three have worse points per game ratios on the road in the last ten years.

QPR are ever so slightly worse off away from Loftus Road averaging just 0.93 points, while Stoke's is 0.87 and Bolton's is worst at 0.77 points per game.

When it comes to actually winning on the road then Sunderland are even worse off. They've won just 22% of their away games, dropping to 89th in the overall table, with QPR having won 23% of their away games.

Having dropped to League One last term, Sunderland's away form did at least improve. They had the second best away record in League One last term - winning ten and drawing nine of their 23 away games.

But four of their five defeats last term also came on the road and they've also already lost away from the Stadium of Light this term too. That crushing defeat to Peterborough has at least been subsidised by two wins and two draws to give them the fourth best record so far this season.
