Sunderland handed home draw against League Two opposition in the FA Cup first round

Sunderland have been handed a home draw against Mansfield Town in the first round of the FA Cup.

The Black Cats will take on the League Two side at the Stadium of Light on the weekend of November 7.

Graham Coughlan's struggling side is yet to win in any competition this season, and is currently 21st in the table with five points from eight games.

It will be the first meeting between the sides in the FA Cup, and only their sixth competitive fixture in any competition.

The teams last went head-to-head in August 2003 in the first round of the League Cup, in a game which saw Mick McCarthy secure his first win since taking charge.

An first-half own-goal from David Artell looked to be enough to send Sunderland safely through until a dramatic finish saw substitute Kevin Kyle score an own-goal to level the scores in the 89th minute, only for the Scot to score the winner at the right end in injury-time to avoid sending the game into extra-time.

Mansfield's most recent visit to Wearside came in August 1987 in what was then the Third Division, when two penalties from John MacPhail, and a goal apiece from Gordon Armstrong and Paul Atkinson saw Sunderland win 4-1 at Roker Park.
