Sunderland handed Carabao Cup second round tie against Blackpool

The fixtures will be played on the week commencing August 23 at Bloomfield Road.

The Wearsiders are no strangers to their opposition having twice lost against the Seasiders towards the tail end of last season.

Lee Johnson's side will be looking to put in an assured performance to prove they can battle with the Championship new boys.

Sunderland put in a professional performance to overcome League Two side Port Vale in the first round.

Goals from Josh Hawkes and Aiden O'Brien saw a much changed Sunderland side book their place in the hat.

The Wearsiders have not reached the third round of the competition since the 2017/18 season when they were knocked out by Everton at Goodison Park.

Blackpool on the other hand, defeated Middlesbrough 3-0 at Bloomfield Road to secure their place in the draw.
