Sunderland food shop on fire: Investigation after yet another blaze hits street

A probe is underway after a late-night fire at a Sunderland food venue.

Crews raced to Hot Dip Stop, in Hylton Road just before midnight and spent over an hour tackling the fire.

The venue is the latest to catch fire on the street.

Last September, popular eatery Boreno Bistro suffered substantial damage after flames ripped through it.

Now Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue  said it is investigating the latest blaze on Thursday night.

"We were called at 23:55, and two crews – one each from Sunderland Central and Marley Park - arrived on scene at 23:58 to a single storey end terraced building divided into three shops," said a service spokesperson.

"The fire was in the roof void, where electrical cables had been severely damaged by fire.

"The roof void itself was only slightly fire damaged. We left the scene at 1am.

"The fire is currently under investigation."
