Sunderland fans will travel almost 8,000 miles following the Black Cats this season

Sunderland’s location means the club’s travelling fans generally rack up the miles on trips to away matches, and this season will be no different.

A Black Cats fan going from the Stadium of Light to each away league game and back again will travel a total of 7,989 miles as the crow flies.

Plymouth Argyle (9,925 miles) and Exeter City (8,172) are the only fans in the top four divisions of English football who face travelling further to get to and from their away league games.

The amount of mileage Sunderland fans will clock up is enough to get them from the Stadium of Light to the Pakistan city of Karachi and back again.

Alternatively, fans could undertake a return trip to the wilderness of Alaska, or the Congo rainforest for the same amount of mileage they’ll rack up getting to and from away league matches this season.

Leicester City fans will travel fewer miles than any other club’s fans this season.

Foxes fans will travel a total of 3,407 miles going to and from each away league ground from the King Power Stadium this season.

That’s not much less than the 3,512 miles for Watford fans, 3,535 miles for Aston Villa fans, and 3,619 miles for Coventry fans
