Sunderland fans turn on Jack Ross with stinging blast during draw against crisis-hit Bolton

A section of Sunderland fans turned on Jack Ross as his side needed a last-gasp penalty to salvage a point against crisis-hit Bolton.

The former St Mirren boss is feeling the heat at the Stadium of Light following a stuttering start to the season.

He required a stoppage time penalty from ex-Celtic winger Aiden McGeady to escape a damaging defeat away at League One's rock bottom side.

Wanderers, who sit on minus nine points following sanctions over their financial struggles, took the lead after 50 minutes through defender Jack Hobbs.

They looked on course for a first league win of the season until McGeady's late intervention, which still leaves Sunderland five points behind early leaders Ipswich.

It's reported chants of "you don't know what you're doing" were directed at Ross as the Black Cats toiled, while Bolton supporters gloated he'd be "sacked in the morning".

But the Scot insists he's not bothered by the stinging criticism and declared he can handle the pressure.

He said: "Any criticism, give it to me. That’s my job.

“You make decisions based on how you think players have performed at the time. We then find an equaliser, so whether that justifies it or not I don’t know.

“It is my job to do that, it is fine, criticism, no problem. That’s football. That’s no problem.

“I am a 43-year-old man, I have been through a lot in life to earn the right to work and deal with things, it is not a flippant remark.

“Like any human being, criticism is not nice for any person, irrespective of what walk of life you are in.

“Strength of character to deal with it is a different thing. It is no problem.”
