Sunderland fans react to Papa John's Trophy 'Giant killers' draw

Sunderland fans are relatively pleased to have been draw at home to Port Vale in the Third Round of the Papa John's Trophy.

The Black Cats will host the League Two side on the week commencing January 11.

The Valiants are currently unbeaten in the competition after seeing off Wigan, Liverpool U-21s, Tranmere, and Wolves U-21's.

John Askey's side are currently mid-table after an indifferent start to the season.

However, Sunderland fans are wary of becoming complacent after their recent run of form.

Neil Thornton said: "I'm happy with the draw as long as we don't fall flat on our faces (Again)."

Rob Jones said: "They’re giant killers the Vale. Never underestimate anyone from round Boslem way!"

The Black Cats are currently favourites to win the competition and head coach, Lee Johnson has an impressive record in the competition.

His Barnsley side made it through to the final and eventually won the competition, but had already departed the Tykes to join former club Bristol City.

Sunderland have already reached the final of the competition two years ago and fans want them to go one further this time round.

Peter Hammel said: "Why would we not want to win it?"
